Festival Fireworks

In 1792, men of the Town of Smithville (Southport’s founding name) commemorated our nation’s independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain with a toast, as ships anchored in her harbor fired their cannons in celebration. Today crowds of people line the Waterfront in Southport and many “ships” anchor in the harbor to watch a brilliant fireworks display, launched from a barge in the Intracoastal Waterway. Plenty of oh’s and uh’s packed into the 20 minute fireworks show which is the finale for the festival. The festival fireworks will begin at 9pm on July 4th.

Special Thanks to the Perry Family, American Fish Company, Gene Evans, and the US Coast Guard.

Alternate fireworks viewing location is near the Oak Island Lighthouse on Caswell Beach Drive, Caswell Beach.
